Photo Gopher 6.0

Photo Gopher offers a streamlined method for extracting and displaying metadata from images and videos within your Photos Library. The application categorizes these media items as either movies, videos, images, or photos, and provides detailed metadata associated with each item, including descriptive and identifying information.

The application emphasizes its capability to locate the GPS coordinates embedded within a media item’s metadata. This feature enables users to obtain turn-by-turn directions to the location where the media was captured, assuming such geotagging information is available. To utilize this functionality, simply select the Show Route option, ensuring that Location Services are enabled in your device’s Privacy & Security settings.

In addition to local library items, users can also access metadata from external media files:

• On iOS devices: Open the Files app, select an item, then choose Share > Photo Gopher.
• On macOS: Use the File menu and select Gopher… ⌘G to browse and open an external file.

The application can display a comprehensive range of metadata, including but not limited to:

• Basic details such as filename, size, creation date, and resolution.
• Media-specific information like audio/video track details, data rates, and cover art.
• Photographic data including orientation, aperture settings, exposure values, etc.
• Geospatial data comprising GPS coordinates, an annotated map view, and if location services are active, navigation directions to the media’s location.
• Apple-specific metadata such as EXIFAux (face detection bounding boxes) and MakerApple tags.
• Metadata from other manufacturers’ MakerNote fields.
• Standard formats like EXIF, TIFF, PNG, JFIF, IPTC, DNG, among others.

The interface is organized into four tabs:

1. Media: Facilitates selection of media items from your Photos Library or external sources. Upon selection, a detailed view displays a thumbnail (clickable), metadata details, and a map centered on GPS coordinates if available. Coordinates are automatically copied to your clipboard for quick pasting into Maps. Additional metadata can be copied via long-press or control-click.
2. Favorites: Lists items marked as favorites. Selecting a favorite opens its detailed view; swipe left to remove favorites from the list.
3. Settings: Allows customization of app preferences.
4. Help: Displays this tutorial information.

The Gopher actions provide further interaction options:

• Make Favorite: Adds the selected media item to your favorites list; the maximum number of favorites can be set in preferences.
• Show Route: Launches Maps with directions from your current location to the media's geotagged position; users can select route and map types in settings.
• Mail: Sends an email with two attachments — a textual representation of the metadata structure and a visual diagram suitable for human review.
• Print: Outputs the media item’s metadata in formatted form designed for 8.5" x 11" landscape printing.
